The iron cake riot
The story of the iron cake revolt is about the popular uprising that arose as a result of the ban on the tour with the iron cakes. This prohibition, issued by the local authorities on December 22, 1770, caused unrest among the population. A protest meeting was banned to counter riot. However, this only made matters worse. The Coevordenaren revolted on December 29 at the town hall of Coevorden, led by iron cake bakers. At this town hall, under great pressure, the magistrate finally decided to withdraw the ban on the tour with the iron cakes.
